Event and Meeting Management Concentration

The Event and Meeting Management Concentration is for students interested in the theoretical and practical aspects of event and meeting management, including research, design, planning, coordination, and evaluation of events and meetings of various types and sizes. Students study best practices in promotion, organization, and risk management of events and meetings. Emphasis is placed on the management competencies required for successful event and meeting professionals.

Objectives
  • Learn best practices for planning, designing, and managing events and meetings of various types, sizes, and complexity.
  • Develop an awareness of the event and meeting industry, including meetings, conventions, conferences, expositions, special events, and more.
  • Gain knowledge of current professional development opportunities and best practices in the event and meeting industry.
  • Conduct effective event and meeting management research, including needs assessment, situation analysis, and feasibility study.
  • Enhance event and meeting management education through internship experience.

TSTD 276 - Risk Management for Events and Meetings (3CH)

This course addresses risk, crisis, and liability issues that may arise in the planning and management of events, meetings, conventions, and exhibitions. It focuses on preventative and responsive measures designed to minimize the adverse impact of risk, crisis, and disaster on event organizers, facilities, and vendors. (Fall)

TSTD 277 - Event Management (3CH)

An introduction to the theoretical and practical foundations of event management. Fundamentals of planning, budgeting, and evaluating events. (Fall)

TSTD 278 - Conference and Exposition Management (3CH)

Site selection, program planning and management, exhibits, selection and use of facility, volunteers, and budget management. (Spring)

TSTD 279 - Event Entertainment Management (3CH)

Event entertainment, including designing and planning the entertainment component of an event, as well as managing and marketing entertainers in an event context. (Summer)
